Prerequisites

To start, you must be at least 18 years of age.

Complete 168 hours of approved Pre-Licensing education.

To start, you must successfully complete an approved 168 clock-hour Pre-Licensing course. Learn more about your package options here.

For licensed attorneys, those that have received a degree from a university with a major course of study in real estate, former licensees, or those with a current license in another jurisdiction seeking licensure in Colorado, please see the DORA Division of Real Estate website and the license qualification grid that identifies the education and examination requirements in detail for each candidate's unique situation.
Pass the course final exam.

At the end of each course, you must take and pass a course final exam. Depending on the course length, each course's final exam consists of either 20 questions or 50 questions.

Upon completing the entire 168-hour program, you must take a program final exam. This final exam consists of 100 state-specific questions and 100 national questions, and the minimum passing score is 75%.
Pass the Colorado Real Estate Broker License exam.

Next, you'll take and pass the Colorado Real Estate Broker Licensing Exam, which is administered by PSI. This exam consists of an 80-question National portion with a 120-minute time allowance and a 74-question State portion with a 110-minute time allowance. Colorado is providing the option of taking the licensing exam remotely instead of at a physical testing center location. PSI will still have in-person on site testing still available for those students who wish to take the exam in-person instead of online.

You can schedule an exam through the PSI exam site. PSI has a dedicated number for Colorado candidates with scheduling or any other issues on their exam - (855) 744-0313. The cost and time of the exam remain the same online proctoring versus in-person at a facility.

Complete a background check.

You must next submit a set of fingerprints to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. These fingerprints are used to conduct a Colorado and federal fingerprint-based criminal history background check utilizing records from the CBI and the FBI.
Acquire errors and omissions (E&O) insurance.

You must have an E&O insurance policy in place before obtaining an active license. For more information, click here.
Complete the application.

The Colorado Division of Real Estate's Online Services uses eLicense for new licensee candidates to apply for their broker license, and for existing licensees to manage their license. Register with eLicense and follow the instructions to officially apply for your broker license.
